About the Symposium

The associations of students at The University of Tokyo and International Center are organizing an International Symposium on Multidisciplinary Research. This event aims to create a space for Japanese and international students from The University of Tokyo to get know each other, to interact and to learn about their mutual research fields. Application to join the event is now open for all students of The University of Tokyo.

Who can join?

We welcome everyone from The University of Tokyo-student, researcher, staff, or faculty member-to join the Symposium. All topics and research areas are welcome. In fact we will be very happy to have people from as diverse research areas as possible !

Best of all, participation in the Symposium is free for everyone !!

Why should I join?

The Symposium is a great way to take a break and learn about other students and research topics at The University of Tokyo. It is also a great chance to meet new people and get a feel of the diversity that exists at The University of Tokyo.

We welcome you to join in and have a great time learning about many interesting research topics and meet just as interesting and diverse people!

How can I help?

We need people from different backgrounds and research fields to give interesting and simple presentations on their area of research. Both oral and poster presentations are welcome and we would like to accommodate as many people as possible within the time limitations.

We also need volunteers to help on the day of the symposium. We will upload more information about volunteers in January and February. Those who are interested can contact us via email. We will be very happy to receive your email.

We also greatly welcome everyone to come in and attend the Symposium. It is a great chance to learn, to meet great people, and to enjoy yourself in an international, yet relaxed setting ! We will upload more information in the coming months.

Title

A Flexible Membrane Spacecraft Going to Space.

Abstract

A dream of a student 10 years ago has become a real spacecraft entering the atmosphere. Flexible is more tough than Rigid. A novel concept of a spacecraft with deployable flexible membrane aeroshell has been invented for safer space transportation in the future. A brief history of our research and development activities including flight tests using high-altitude balloons and a sounding rocket are reviewed.
